I apologize from the depths of my very soul for being such a terrible blogger lately. Life has been insane and blogging has been a casualty. I’ve had a list of posts I want to make getting longer and longer, but other stuff just kept getting in the way. I really hope things are turning a corner now though. I actually know where I’ll be for the next 12 months. I can unpack and unwind and start living again.
Any how, here’s something I wanted to post when I saw it on Tumblr. It’ a candid I’ve never seen before and yet another example of Rathbone and Dietrich looking very cozy together. So what was the deal with that?
And no, before anyone say anything, Dietrich is not Madam X of the letters.

Dear Countess:93 here in CT,76% humidity,about same tomorry,thundershowers then Fall-like weather this weekend.Still gets me why OR had to try to hide Ark. roots.Even if she really was from Russia don’t see anything wrong,but so much deception on her origins.And even if she was only typist,nothing to deny,but putting on as head scenarist/script person.

Ditto about Weddey not owning up to her southeren roots. Unless theres some dreadfull family secert in her past that I havent been able to find through the usual channels, her family seems to be typical middel class americans. Didnt her accent give her away? Putting on a realy GOOD Russian accent [or was that Spanish] all the time must have been quite the strain dont you think? 93 we had 95.boy thats a contest nobody wants to win.;0 didnt check humidty.Hopeing for fall weather thats promised for the end of the week here too.My garden needs rain ditto my roses.Some how watering them just dosent seam to give as good a resualt as rain does.

I’m in the Boston area, and we had a high of 97 yesterday. I spent 4 hours yesterday in a 4th floor classroom with no air conditioning.

Wow,warmer than Hartford,CT,nasty thunderstorm around 8 pm last nite,still warm and somewhat muggy at 11 am Friday,with promise of cooler,drier temps this afternoon.Can’t believe schools still refuse to provide A/C in this day and age.Our church took until a few years ago to provide other than fans during Mass,mostly blowing on the priest.No wonder so many twice a year Catholics.

Ditto what you said about Dietrich.When Baz was in “The Black Cat”,it was said Dietrich was “seeing” Brod Crawford,and did a stand-in for one of the actresses,shot from behind as the actress had left for the day and did it as a favor for “Brod”.Dietrich was far from only maneater,Joan Crawford and male co-stars,Merle Oberon to name 2 others warm for male co-stars forms.Think “Garden Of Allah” cast just got on quite well and had fun off-camera.Mentioned prev on this blog that he’d been yelled at by Selznick for delaying pic with partying co-stars-not realizing intense heat,stars being ill from high temp,water contamination(?),don’t know how anyone could act if dealing with extremes of temps in Yuma,AZ,which I had understood filming took place.I’d hold out for better working cond too.They weren’t camels,they were humans.

My understanding about the dispute between Baz and Selznick was that Basil didn’t like the way his part had been rewritten, and complained about it. Selznick got upset that someone was challenging his authority and said Basil would never work for him again. However, many challenged Selznick while working on this picture, especially Marlene!

Too bad someone didn’t slap Selznick across face whenever he was in one of his snits when challenged on sticking to the way book was written,Garden Of Allah.There was a life-long tie between Count Anteoni and Domini,believe she was his heir.Sometimes he should’ve listened to his cast instead of thinking,”Gee,it’s great to be the KING” or in his case,jester.And Alan Marshall’s part was beefed up,he’s ok,but not when it cost Baz screen time.

Yes but AZ has realy low humidty. when we were out there people were complaining about the 5% humidity,and we had just come from back east and there was a drought back home and record high temps with record high humidty.So at 105 in AZ,we were like this is great..105 is still 105 but at 5% humidty thats great. but at home 99+99%humidty is unbearable.

No I was born in Ohio.I was “began” in Texas and my folks are from WV.But I have traveled alot.Never overseas though..do they still use that phrase?At heart I’m very much a southerner thats were my roots are.Most people from WV,at least the part my family is from, consider ourselfs southerners. The summer I was speaking of was a rarety here in OH. But we have very high humidity,today it was 80degrees in my kitchen,without the stove on.with 85%humidity.

Wonder what year photo is from.Reunion of the stars of The Garden Of Allah.He looks very happy,as if life is perfect,and don’t mean cuz of whatever existed between himself and Marlene.Just happy to be alive with life as it should be.Seems like in IAOOC he talked like Marlene took good care of co-workers from Garden.

Jane Wyman said on TCM Marlene “mothered” her,believe in Hitch’s Stage Fright,so must be in her personality to cater for co-stars/crew,fuss over others & our Baz was flattered,and partied with Marlene & Chas,as here in this photo above.Some stars seemed to need “mothering” for one reason or other,so don’t think this is an anti-Ouida statement,like some people rush to judge everyone is here because we’re all trying to understand the dynamics of Baz’s life because he is intriguing.

Cant find my copy ..but correct me if I’m wrong..didnt he say in his book they got along very well. Didnt he mention Marlenes hubby too. It was Garbo that snubbed him about the pic thing.Is he sitting on the floor? Good thing his hand aint any lower..what we cant see is Weedy off camera plotting how to kill Marlene and break Basil’s hand.Just kidding Alyssa

The Mystery Of The Broken Wrist from IAOOC,as to whether was the right or left,and if he tried to leap a tall building/wall and fell on the other side.OR would be better befriending Marlene rather than stare daggers at any other Bazmirers.Just imagine how any of us would’ve fared,like Jennifer Jones in that staircase photo.
